New Fiction in D Magazine Summer Fiction Issue!

I have a new short story in the D Magazine July 2022 Summer Fiction issue. All of the stories take place at iconic spots in Dallas. I chose Dallas City Hall:

The Robocop producers gifted Dallas one of seven replicas of the suit. And who better to take ownership of it, all these decades later, than the recently retired man who had maintained City Hall since 1978.

This year features fantastic short fiction by LaToya Watkins, Harry Hunsicker, Logen Cure, Kendra Greene, Kathleen Kent, Alex Temblador, Mag Gabbert, Tim Coursey, Sanderia Faye, and Mike Soto. Beautiful illustrations by Tatjana Junker.

Thank you to Zac Crain for including my story in this issue, on newsstands and online right here.

New Fiction in D Magazine!

I'm honored to have a new short story called "Sonic Bloom" published in the annual fiction issue of D Magazine (July 2020)! Each story in this issue was inspired by a song about Dallas or from a Dallas-based band. I chose the 1998 song "Sonic Bloom" by Tripping Daisy.

Thank you to editor Zac Crain for including my work along with so many great Dallas-based writers: Ben Fountain, Kimberly King Parsons, Kathleen Kent, LaToya Watkins, Joe Milazzo, Harry Hunsicker, Will Clarke, Julia Heaberlin, Samantha Mabry, & Sanderia Faye.

AND: as the Executive Director of Writing Workshops Dallas, I'm also thrilled there are short stories from 4 WWD instructors in this issue! Grab a copy on newsstands now or read the story HERE. Thanks, as always, for reading!

Panelist on Literary Community at Interabang Books!

It was such an amazing turnout at Interabang Books on Tuesday night for the panel on Building and Finding Literary Community. I was honored to be part of this amazing night. Thank you to The Writers' League of Texas for putting on this great event and inviting me to be on a panel featuring other Dallas-based authors Kathleen Kent, Tex Thompson, and Melissa Lenhardt.

If it weren't for the literary community I wouldn't be the writer I am today. I have my time at Brookhaven Junior College and an MFA from UC-Irvine to thank for the kind of writer I am today. For many writers, finding a community is an essential step that leads them to take their work and craft more seriously. It's time you found your writing community. If you're looking for an excellent creative writing workshop in Dallas, check out Writing Workshops Dallas. I hope you’ll take your next step with WWD and enroll in one of our many creative writing courses, available on the Classes page.
